Jack White’s new single “Freedom at 21” released into the air!
1000 biodegradable latex balloons, with 21” flexi-disc attached to each one, were released at the Third Man Records headquarters in Nashville. The experiment was a way to get the music to the hands of people who don’t visit record stores.
We’ve been talking for months about alternative and creative distribution, as well as added value in the Music Business program at Musicians Institute, and this is a great example of that by making music collectible and gaining tons of media interest. According to Jack White’s Third Man Records:
"Statistics for similar balloon launches show a recovery rate of approximately 10% so it’s quite possible that less than one hundred of the one thousand records launched will ever be discovered and the “Freedom at 21″ flexi-disc will surely be a highly sought-after collectible for years to come."
Jack White’s first solo album, “Blunderbuss,” will be released on April 24th.
